Fair trade the Senegalese way

The concept of fair trade as invented in Europe does not alway address the preoccupations of Africans.

In Senegal, a local fair trade movement began with the cotton producers, who were tired of exporting their cotton as a raw material only.

They therefore decided to meet up with other Senegalese people in order to reinvent a fairer fair trade.

Together, they have created the first 100% Senegalese organic fair trade textiles chain, and are able to market quality finished products, rather than raw cotton.
